Kitchener’s Island
The Aswan Botanical Garden has plants and birds from all over the world, from India to the Far East to Africa. The Aswan Botanical Garden is a beautiful and unusual place to get away from the city. When you walk through this garden full of real Egyptian artifacts, you’ll feel like you’re in a dream. Lord Horatio Kitchener had rare and exotic plants planted all over the island as a thank you for his work as consul general of the Egypt Army when Egypt was ruled by the British. He gave her the island as a gift.
Where is the Aswan Botanical Garden located?
Kitchener’s Island, it is west of Elephantine Island. It is one of two islands in the Nile River near Aswan, Egypt.
The History of Kitchener’s Island:
The Nubians used to live in the Aswan Botanical Garden. The crew called it “Jet Narty.” Lord Horatio Kitchener bought the island in 1899 so that his soldiers could have a place to rest. He thought this was where God lived. The Egyptian army was led by Lord Kitchener. Kitchener, who liked plants, turned the whole island into a beautiful botanical garden. At a later time, the Egyptian government took back the island and turned it into the Aswan Botanical Gardens, which are still open today.
The Aswan Botanical Island is set up like a chess board, with 27 separate squares connected by a network of vertical and horizontal walkways. It’s a great way to spend time to find out what this island has to offer. Thanks to work done by the Ministry of Irrigation in 1928, the Botanical Garden now has trees from all five continents. On the island, there are many plantations and trees of many different kinds. Some of the plants on the island were already there when it was turned into a Botanical Garden, while others were brought there from other parts of the world. On the island, you can find rare palm trees like the Royal Palm, Sabal Palm, and Phonic Pam tree.
