Montazah Gardens

Alexandria is a popular place for wealthy people to go on vacation in the summer. This is because the weather in the city is mild, which is a nice change from Cairo. The Egyptian royal family is part of this group. The summer palace of Montazah was built on the shore of Alexandria by order of Khedive Abbas II, who ruled Egypt and Sudan as Khedive from 1892 to 1914. From 1892 to 1914, Khedive Abbas II was in charge of Egypt.

The homes and gardens of Montazah used to be much more exclusive than they are now, but that has changed in recent years, especially after the Free Officers Revolution of 1952 toppled the royal family and took power away from them. The grounds have been well taken care of, so the recently opened beachfront park has a beautiful setting. For the very low price of fifty piasters, you may be able to rest and walk around in the most beautiful place in all of Alexandria.

When people come to visit, they can choose from not just one, but two palaces. The first of the three buildings to be made was an Al Salamlik, which was a hunting lodge for the Khedive and his friends. It was built in 1892. In the 1970s, a lot of work was done on the palace so that it could become the official summer home of the President of the United States.

Before Sharm El-Sheikh was built up and a presidential home was built there in the 1990s, Hosni Mubarak used it as a vacation spot. During that time, Mubarak decided that Sharm El-Sheikh would be the new official home of the president. After a lot of work, it has just reopened as a high-end hotel.

King Fuad, the last member of Muhammed Ali’s family to rule Egypt until the 1952 revolution, finished Al Haramlik Palace in 1932. It has a design that is all its own because it takes parts from both Turkish and Florentine architecture. Al Haramlik is now a museum about the art and history of the Muhammed Ali dynasty. It is open to the public.
