The Wadi Rayan
People who go to Wadi Rayan and Fayoum Oasis will find a beautiful place for people who love nature, full of waterfalls, oases, animals, and bright colors. Both of these places have this kind of scenery. A place where most of the people who live there were born there and where farming is the main source of income for everyone who lives there.
location:
From Central Cairo, it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to Fayoum Oasis, but it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to Wadi Rayan.
The geography of the area as well as the things to do there
15 kilometers to the west of the oasis is a large depression called Wadi Rayan. People have made this area into a place where animals can live safely and where it looks nice. In the 19th century, the British were the ones who first thought of pumping extra water from the Fayoum into the wadi. However, the plan wasn’t really put into action until 1966. Because of this, the area now has three lakes and a waterfall. It has also become an important place for birds to nest.
As it is now, it is a nature reserve that is home to the only known population of slender-horned gazelles in the world, as well as eight other species of mammals, thirteen species of birds that live there year-round, and twenty-six species of migratory and transient birds. Not to mention the one-of-a-kind fossils found in the Valley of the Whales, which is further into the desert and in an area that has been set aside as a special place.
