Tunis Village in Fayoum

It was started in the 1960s by two well-known Egyptian poets who wanted to encourage people in the area to become artists. Evelyne Porret, a potter from Switzerland, moved there with her husband in the 1980s and opened a pottery studio. They quickly turned it into a pottery school where they taught all the kids in the area how to make pottery and encouraged them to become potters themselves. People know about the village because of what it has done.

The Tunis Village is in the city of Tunis, which is in Egypt. Even now, it’s still in business, and all of the kids and teens in the village still make pottery to make money and help support their families. People in Tunis Hamlet are known for their warm hospitality. Because so many people from outside the area have bought homes there, you can often see people from other countries in the town on any given day. There will be chances to look at and buy the work of young artists, as well as to go into town and try your hand at making pottery.

You can go to different pottery shops and see beautiful and sometimes rare plants. These include the “Bottle Brush tree,” the “Spiky Silk Cotton Tree,” the “Rose bushes,” the “pomegranate shrubs,” the “Olive,” the “Orange,” the “Lemon,” and the “Orange” trees, as well as many arbors with a wide range of fruits and flowers growing on them.

If you book a room at a lodge in Tunis Village, you can eat a traditional Egyptian breakfast that has been cooked and set up in the style of Fayoum. This is one reason why it’s a good idea to do this. Also, the Village is calm and peaceful, so you can take your time exploring it and not feel rushed. Here, you can talk to the friendly locals and look at the beautiful homes and villas, which have elements of both Nubian and Tunisian architecture.
