Dakhla Oasis
The Oasis of Dakhla is one of the most isolated places in Egypt because it is far from both Cairo and Luxor. Even so, the time and effort that are put in will be more than made up for. People say that the part of the road between Farafra and Cairo is one of the most empty in all of Egypt. If you stop your car completely, you can stand next to it and hear nothing but the wind blowing for what seems like a very long time.
It is a large oasis that covers a large area and is surrounded by a number of small towns and hamlets. Keep an eye out for people wearing straw hats to know when you’ve reached your destination. Farmers in this area often wear these hats, but you won’t see them in any other oasis. People think that Dakhla, which is also called Mut and is the largest town in the city, is one of the oldest places where people have always lived on the African continent.
“Mut” was the word for “mother” in the language of the ancient Egyptians. In modern language, Mut is seen as the first place where people lived. Archaeologists have used carbon dating to find out that some homes found over the years date back 13,000 years.
Dakhla is an interesting place because it has a lot of ancient ruins, hot springs, and a huge cliff that dominates the skyline on the northern side of the city. At Qasr, an oasis town in Saudi Arabia’s northern desert (like many desert villages, the main town is also called Qasr, after the citadel), a Dutch-led team of locals has been able to restore almost all of the black mud walls of the old town.
This maze-like network of small streets and hidden doorways is one of the most beautiful places to spend time in Dakhla. Spend some time getting lost in a maze that goes on forever and looks like something out of “Star Wars” or “The Sheltering Sky.”
Deir El Hagar:
A beautiful Roman ruin called Deir El Haggar is only a few kilometers away from Qasr. You should definitely go there. There used to be a layer of sand on this spot. The sand helped keep the paint on the sculptures from getting damaged by the weather. The paint looks very modern, so it is surprising to find examples that are more than 2,000 years old. One could compare them to the famous explorer Rohlfs, whose signature can be seen clearly on a column in front of the temple of Deir El Haggar, which was built in the 1500s. In this case, the building of the temple took place in Egypt.
On the other hand, he carved it when the sand was much higher than it is now. His graffiti was about three meters above the ground. It has since been cleaned up so that more of the temple can be seen.
On the other side of the street from this rebuilt Roman temple is a group of cone-shaped hills with graves on them. If you look around, you’ll see that there are a lot of other hills that look like these ones all over Dakhla. Some of them have been dug up and taken, but if you keep looking, you will find them.
You can have fun in Mut by going on a bike ride:
You can get around Dakhla using hitch lifts, the back of a pick-up truck, or the vehicle’s cab. This will give you the chance to see all of the historic places. Most likely, the best choice will be to rent a bike with pedals.
You can rent bikes in all of the Oases to get around the area. Mut is not an exception, but most of its roads are empty, making them some of the best places in all of Egypt to ride on the road, especially in the afternoon.
